316L is a Stainless Steel grade, AISI 316L is the corresponding American designation, and sus 316L is the corresponding Japanese designation. my country's unified digital code is S31603, the standard grade is 022Cr17Ni12Mo2 (new standard), and the old grade is 00Cr17Ni14Mo2, which means that it mainly contains Cr, Ni, and Mo, and the number indicates the approximate percentage contained.
316L is widely used in the chemical industry because of its excellent corrosion resistance. 316L is also a derivative of 18-8 austenitic stainless steel, with 2 to 3% Mo added. On the basis of 316L, many steel types are also derived. For example, 316Ti is derived by adding a small amount of Ti, 316N is derived by adding a small amount of N, and 317L is derived by increasing the content of Ni and Mo.
Most of the existing 316L on the market is produced according to the American Standard. The American standard stipulates that the Ni content of 316L is 10-14%, while the Japanese standard stipulates that the Ni content of 316L is 12-15%. According to the minimum standard, there is a 2% difference in Ni content between the American Standard and the Japanese Standard, which is quite huge when reflected in the price. Therefore, when purchasing 316L products, customers still need to see clearly whether the products refer to ASTM or JIS standards.
The Mo content of 316L makes this steel have excellent corrosion resistance, and can be safely used in environments containing halogen ions such as Cl-.

Stainless Steel Sheet/plate/coil is an alloy steel with smooth surface, high weldability, corrosion resistance, polishability, heat
resistance, corrosion resistance and other characteristics. It is widely used in various industries and is an important material in modern industry. Stainless steel is divided into austenitic stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel, martensitic stainless steel, and duplex stainless steel according to the structure state.
Austenitic Stainless Steel:
stainless steel with an austenitic structure at room temperature. Steel contains Cr≈18%, Ni≈8%-25% and C≈0.1%. Steel has high toughness and plasticity, but low strength.
Martensitic Stainless Steel:
A steel whose mechanical properties can be adjusted by heat treatment. It has different strength and toughness at different tempering temperatures.
Duplex Stainless Steel: Austenitic and ferrite each account for about half of the structure. When the C content is low, the Cr content is 18% to 28%, and the Ni content is 3% to 10%. Some steels also contain alloying elements such as Mo, Cu, Si, Nb, Ti, and N. This type of steel has the characteristics of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel.
Ferritic Stainless Steel:
It contains 15% to 30% chromium and has a body-centered cubic crystal structure. This type of steel generally does not contain nickel, and sometimes contains a small amount of Mo, Ti, Nb and other elements. This type of steel has the characteristics of large thermal conductivity, small expansion coefficient, good oxidation resistance, and excellent stress corrosion resistance.
Stainless steel production mainly includes crude steel smelting, hot rolling, and cold rolling.
